Musee d’Orsay at last!

Really, who needs straight lines? Curves are nice, like a ‘C’ or a ‘U’.

I walked a very long ‘U’ today. A ‘W’ wouldn’t be that far off either. Across the Seine, 5eme, 7eme, across the Seine, across the Seine… No, that’s not a typo.

Now I face a lineup. Do I really want to go in that badly? “Why not tomorrow?”, I think to myself.

God, my legs are tired.

[2006-01-07: I ended up going, but on the next day.]

7eme

After Notre Dame, I headed westwards (sort of) towards the Musee d’Orsay. As I was taking a windy route, I briefly touched 5eme before entering 7eme. I think I passed by a university area. I definitely passed by l’Ecole de Medecins, and saw some student types.

Prices are much cheaper here for everything. I often fall into the trap of buying souvenirs as soon as I see them, unwilling to risk forgetting where it’s from, even though I know that I’m in the tourist area and that I’ll be going to more reasonable areas soon. Bad habit.

Being curious and trying to manage my budget, I am trying Thai food today. The red curry duck with lychee is alright, nothing to write home about (or take pictures of). Remarkably non-spicy though; do the French not enjoy spiciness?

I swear the staff are speaking Mandarin though. It’s that tantalizing familiarness, the cadence… Dare I dust off my one course in Mandarin and ask?
