I feel some discontentment about my blog; it manifests as incessant tweaking as well as thinking about “why bother”?
That got me thinking about why I started and continue to blog. Upon reflection, I blog to:
- Hone the clarity, precision, and information density of my writing.
- Let my personal network know what I’m up and about doing.
- Share knowledge/insight I wish I found on the Internet, instead of learning it the hard way.
The first two points will handle themselves quite easily. For the third point, flipping through my blog, would I read it regularly if it was someone else’s? Probably not. Too much of a “shiny, new thing” slant, not enough thinking going on.
I recently read a quote from Seth Godin about online content:
The long way is to create content that is updated, unique and useful.
Good words to remember in several contexts.
